About
On one January day, Shiokawa in Kitakata City combines a New Year market with a boat-pulling contest. Stalls set up along Shinmachi-dori, while on Toeicho-dori two teams, east and west, haul a Japanese boat back and forth, wishing for strong local industry and busy shops. The streets are about five minutes on foot from Shiokawa Station. The Shiokawa interchange of the Aizu Jukan Kita road is close by, but there is no dedicated parking. In 2026 it was held on January 15. The Shiokawa first-market and boat-pulling festival committees, based at the Kitakata Chamber of Commerce, handle inquiries.
