About
On a single autumn night each year, Hida-Furukawa holds a festival based on a local fairy tale. A bride and groom, selected each year from applicants nationwide, are made up as foxes and lead a wedding procession through town, and seeing it pass along the lamp-lit old streets is like watching a picture book come alive. Afterward, a wedding ceremony takes place at the festival plaza. Daytime brings the annual rite at Okura Inari Shrine, a rickshaw debut for the couple, a celebration ceremony and a market at the plaza, with stalls selling Hida dishes and drinks. Visitors can have fox makeup done in town and join in as foxes too. The plaza is about a 5-minute walk from JR Hida-Furukawa Station.
