About
In early summer, the upper Daianji River in eastern Kakamigahara draws visitors to see Genji fireflies glowing after dusk. The densest gathering is at a biotope called the Daianji River Firefly Village, so head there. During the festival, guides from the volunteer group that raises the fireflies are on site to answer questions. Fireflies dislike bright light such as headlights, so keep lights off where you can and watch quietly. A cooking-pot donation box at the site collects money to look after the firefly habitat. There is no parking, so walk from JR Unuma Station or Meitetsu Unumajuku Station; either takes about twenty-five minutes.
