About
Shimonita holds this festival to spread the word about its famous Shimonita negi, a leek you can only enjoy in winter. Farmers sell their own leeks and other produce directly in the plaza in front of the konnyaku-making workshop and along Nakamachi-dori. Don't miss the special leek-and-chicken skewers, which you grill yourself. Food trucks come from outside the town, and in 2025 there were also rickshaw rides through the retro Showa-era streets. It goes ahead in rain but is cancelled in a storm, and some events may be dropped when it rains. Parking gets crowded, so public transport or car-sharing is a good idea.
