About
This festival takes Mihara Castle, once nicknamed the floating castle, as its theme and brings back some of the bustle of the old castle town. In 2026 the festival's 23rd edition is held around Mihara Castle Ruins Historical Park. Day one is the Octopus versus Crab battle, a food showdown between Mihara octopus and mitten crabs from the Nuta River, with grilled oysters and other Seto Inland Sea fare on the side; after dark the castle ruins are illuminated. On the final day, armored warriors and mounted riders march through the old town, and you can pay to join the procession in armor yourself. Rickshaw rides and the Ukishiro tea gathering offer other ways to connect with local history. The organizer is the Mihara Ukishiro Matsuri executive committee, and inquiries go to the Mihara Tourism Association.
