About
For its dance contest, the Awajishima Festival turns the streets of central Sumoto into a dance floor on summer evenings; now in its 79th edition. Teams known as ren dance their way, one after another, through stages set up along the streets. The main stage is on Horibata-suji, and you can also catch performances at the Honmachi 7-8 chome and Commode 56 stages and on a special stage at Sumoto Machinaka Square. Heavy rain or strong wind may lead to cancellation. The festival's fireworks show is a separate event on another day, held around Ohama Park.
