About
Each spring, Kaga Shinmeigu (also called Yamashita Shrine) in the Daishoji area of Kaga holds its annual festival over two days, praying for local industry and a good harvest. The shrine and the streets around it are the venue: floats and lion dancers make the rounds of the neighbourhood, kagura is performed and a mikoshi is carried through town. The other draw is the cherry trees along the Kumasaka River right next to the shrine, a row about a kilometre long that is lit by paper lanterns at night when in bloom. Festival-goers wander the riverbank under the blossoms, a scene that captures spring in Daishoji.
