About

This festival celebrates Nambu ironware, designated one of Japan’s Traditional Crafts, and 2026 marks its 47th edition. The highlight is the ironware sale, the one time of year you can pick up Nambu cast-iron pieces at especially friendly prices, alongside a craft market and a corner where you can make your own pewter key ring. Plenty of events draw on the casting tradition: Saturday brings a cooking class using iron cookware, the Benkei iron-clog throwing contest and a lucky rice-cake scatter, while Sunday offers free pork miso soup and dance performances by local groups marking milestone years. The festival spreads over two venues, the Oshu Casting Technology Exchange Center and the Oshu Traditional Industry Hall, about a 10-minute walk from Mizusawa-Esashi Station.
