About

This homegrown winter festival started from a simple wish: to let local kids play in real snow. Snow brought from Kofu Town in Tottori Prefecture turns a plaza white for snow play and sledding. The highlight is a snowball-fight tournament between elementary school teams who sign up in advance. On stage there is kids' dance and children's taiko, plus rice-cake pounding and assorted stalls, while the gym offers old-fashioned games such as giant karuta, top spinning and kite making for the whole family. The venue is Kokubunji Tachibananooka Sports Park and entry is free, though adults are asked to chip in a 100-yen donation toward the cost of bringing in the snow. A free shuttle bus runs, and the event is hosted and run by a local festival council and executive committee.
