About

Every June 10 from 9:00, Kirishima Jingu Shrine plants its sacred rice field in a ceremony asking for a good harvest. It begins with the Ta-no-kami-mai, a dance offered for an abundant crop, and then about 100 parishioners in planting costume and local elementary school children set seedlings across a field of about 50 ares. It goes ahead in rain, and watching is free. The field is about 13 minutes by bus from Kirishima-Jingu Station or about 25 minutes by car from the Mizobe Kagoshima Airport IC, and there is parking.
