About
In the wooded hills of Iiyama, in northwestern Atsugi, cherry blossom season brings a local festival. Its 62nd edition, in 2026, ran for 2 days with the Sakura Plaza of Iiyama Hakusan Forest Park as its main stage. The temple approach to Iiyama Kannon, starting from a bridge below the park, runs about 600 meters, and you can walk it under trees in full bloom. Local groups put on Iiyama Hakuryu taiko drumming, the White Dragon dance, the Iiyama Hana Ondo folk dance and Sagami Sato Kagura, and the trees are illuminated after dark. Iiyama Kannon (Hasedera Temple) is a renowned blossom spot named among Kanagawa's 50 scenic sites, and from the lookout atop Mount Hakusan the view stretches toward Yokohama and Shinjuku. Iiyama Onsen at the foot of the hill makes a good stop afterward. Rain may lead to cancelled or changed events.
