About

The hydrangea season is celebrated at Ajisai no Sato in the town of Kaisei, with its 39th festival held in 2026. The setting is a stretch of newly planted rice paddies about 3.6 times the size of Tokyo Dome, edged with roughly 5,000 hydrangea bushes, so a walk takes you between bright green rice and flowers in many colors. In Ajisai Park, the main venue, the 'hydrangea pond' is covered with about 2,000 floating blossoms. At the same time, Ashigarigo Setoyashiki, a 300-year-old farmhouse nearby, hosts a special exhibition themed on hydrangeas, bamboo and water, which makes an easy add-on to the visit.
