About
Since 1950, Kyoto Takigi Noh has been a fixture of early summer in Kyoto. A Noh stage is set up in front of Heian Shrine's great hall, and as bonfires blaze in the evening, actors from the Kanze and Kongo schools of Noh and the Okura school of Kyogen comedy perform by firelight. It is organized by the City of Kyoto and the Kyoto Nohgaku Association. On performance days, a free afternoon lecture at nearby ROHM Theatre Kyoto introduces Noh to newcomers, and the performance moves indoors to the theatre if it rains. From 2027, the event moves to the first Friday and Saturday of June.
