About
Held each summer in the Furukawa district of Osaki City, this festival reached its 78th edition in 2026, with the Furukawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry posting the announcements. Food stalls line the streets, and the program includes the Old River Fes, Furukawa dancing, a parade of original handmade mikoshi (portable shrines) and Furukawa festival drumming. Tanabata touches add color too, from Tanabata decorations made by local school children to a street hung with wish strips and small Tanabata displays. In 2026, rain meant the Tanabata decorations were not put up, but the other events went ahead as planned, and the children's decorations were later displayed at Osaki City Hall.
