About

This festival turns Shiroishi Castle into a battlefield to retell the exploits of Katakura Kojuro Shigenaga, the castle's second lord, at the Summer Siege of Osaka. In 1615, at the Battle of Domyoji, Shigenaga's troops faced the forces of Goto Matabei and clashed fiercely with the Sanada army, earning him the nickname "Oni-Kojuro" (Kojuro the Demon). The highlight is a reenactment of the battle in the castle's main bailey, with volunteer extras from the public playing the Katakura and Sanada armies. The day also features kagura dance, firefighters' ladder acrobatics and children's taiko drumming.
