About

Toyoma's autumn festival, designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Miyagi Prefecture, fills the old town's streets over two days. The eve festival features Ogasawara-school ceremonial archery, a display of illuminated festival floats after dark and torch-lit Noh theater. On the main day, a portable shrine is carried out from Toyoma Shrine, followed by a samurai procession, traditional work songs and a parade of floats, with matchlock gun demonstrations, iaido sword drawing, deer dances and kagura performances. The festival closes with the Toyoma hayashi dance finale.
