About
For a single evening in early summer, just after water has been let into the paddies, the Onigi Rice Terraces in Hasami glow with candlelight. Local residents light about 5,000 candles and lanterns, and their flames are mirrored in the flooded fields, so the stepped hillside shimmers softly. Locals also pour cups of Hasami green tea for visitors. The paths are unlit and can get muddy, so wear rain boots or sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. Please stay out of the terraced fields themselves. Paid parking is available at Onigi Ground.
