About
Every Golden Week, the pottery town of Hasami holds its ceramics fair, the biggest in Nagasaki Prefecture. Around 150 local kilns and trading companies line up their stalls at Yakimono Park, and you may come across pieces priced below normal. Picking out tableware while talking with the people who made or sell it is half the pleasure. Hands-on corners let you try slip casting or painting (fees apply), and there is a prize draw based on how much you spend. Since sales take place under large tents, you can browse comfortably even when it rains. Shuttle buses run during the fair, including to and from Arita Station, so getting there without a car is easy.
