About
Omura was a post town on the Nagasaki Kaido, a highway busy with people and goods in the Edo period, and this local products fair draws on that history. Held every February with Omura's products at its center, it aims to strengthen ties of people, goods and culture among communities linked by the old road. Specialties, farm and fishery products and traditional crafts from Omura and other areas are gathered in one place, so you can shop for them all at once. There is a scattering of red-and-white rice cakes and sweets, a prize lottery, and a chance to meet the city mascot Omuran-chan, and early arrivals receive free food, vegetables and flower seedlings. The committee behind it is based at the Omura City Products Promotion Association. Take a bus from JR Omura Station for about 10 minutes; the venue is right by the Shiyakusho-mae stop.
