About
Tsushima's signature summer festival runs for two days around a special stage at Izuhara Port. The main attraction is linked to the Joseon missions, the Korean diplomatic embassies of the Edo period in which the Tsushima domain played a key part: the envoys' procession is reenacted and a replica ship sails into the harbor. The eve brings a children's mikoshi and a mochi toss, and the main day offers the envoy procession, events for kids, another mochi toss, Genko taiko drumming by the Ground Self-Defense Force and live music, before a summer fireworks show closes the night. A Maritime Self-Defense Force missile boat and a Coast Guard patrol ship are also scheduled to open to visitors, something only a port town can offer. The program may change, so check with the Izuhara Port Festival Promotion Association.
