About
In Hita, known as Tenryo Hita, the old houses bring out their hina dolls each spring. More than ten historic homes and museums around Mamedamachi and Kuma display rare doll sets, okiage-bina made of paper and cloth that ordinary townspeople loved, and doll accessories, all at the same time. Many of the dolls were bought in Kyoto and Osaka by rich merchants and are still kept in the old homes. About 40 years ago they were put on show to revive the town, and the event reached its 43rd edition in 2026. It is a relaxed way to wander the historic streets.
