About
In the old castle town of Usuki, paper hina dolls are set out around town. Simple, elegant paper dolls appear at venues such as the Usuki Tourist Exchange Plaza and Sala de Usuki, and you can join a stamp rally around local restaurants and shops or collect the letters the dolls hold to solve a word puzzle, which makes it fun to explore on foot. Old documents say that during the Tenpo-era reforms, the Usuki domain demanded frugal living and townspeople could display only paper dolls. None of those dolls survive, so a local group, Usuki Hina no Kai, created a local style based on standing hina, considered an early form of the festival doll.
