In cherry blossom season, Taketa holds this spring festival at the ruins of Oka Castle and in the castle town below. Events recall earlier times, including a matchlock gun demonstration by the Higo-Kumamoto Domain Ashikita gun corps, and the daimyo (feudal lord) procession celebrated its 50th year in 2026. A good plan is to visit the castle ruins first, then walk down into town to catch the processions and performances. 2026 marked its 78th edition.
