About
On January 5 each year, Takura Ushigami Shrine in Yoshinaga, Bizen, holds its grand festival. Wishes here are made by offering little ox figures of Bizen-yaki, the local unglazed pottery, and the shrine is crowded on festival day with people bringing them. The fun part is what happens next: visitors take home an ox that someone else left. If their wish is granted, they come back to say thanks and repay it double, returning the borrowed ox plus one more. It is about a 30-minute walk from JR Yoshinaga Station.
