About
At Chusei Yumegahara in the Bisei area of Ibara, kagura is performed each year in an open-air square from late afternoon until late at night. The program focuses on medieval-style pieces from Kojin kagura, with the goal of passing true forms of the dances to the next generation. Each year has its own theme: in 2026 it was "A Contest of Three Princesses," built around how the goddesses Ame-no-Uzume, Naigu-hime and Kushinada-hime are each portrayed. Pieces such as the sakaki branch dance, the opening of the Heavenly Rock Cave and the slaying of the great serpent are also staged. Tickets come as general admission or reserved seats booked by phone or fax. Since you will be outdoors into the night, bringing a jacket and something to sit on is recommended.
