About
Yuga Shrine in the Kojima Yuga area of Kurashiki holds this midsummer purification rite. You write your name, age, gender and zodiac sign on a paper figure called a hitogata, breathe on it and make a wish, and the figure takes on your sins and impurities in your place. After the purification, the figures are floated away on the Keiyugawa, a clear stream on Mt. Yuga. The aim is to recover the pure heart people are born with. Taking part is free, and each figure costs 500 yen. In 2026 it started in the evening. By car it is about 20 minutes from the Kojima IC on the Seto-Chuo Expressway, with parking available.
