About
Saitoji Temple in the Hoso area of Niimi celebrates the Buddha with a flower festival on the last Sunday of June, when its roughly 11,000 hydrangeas and 5,000 Japanese irises are in full bloom. Prayers and a grand Kannon festival rite take place in the main hall, and food stalls set up outside. A goshuin temple stamp is available only on this day, and you can receive various prayers without booking. The path of a thousand torii gates is also worth a look. The mountain road is narrow in places and large and mid-size buses cannot get through, so a small car or taxi is the way to go.
