About
On the second Saturday of February, Anyoji Temple in Hayashino, Mimasaka, holds its eyo, a naked festival said to be about 800 years old and among the oldest of its kind in Okayama Prefecture. On the day, sacred sticks called shingi are thrown into the temple grounds, and an event called jioshi takes place the night before. There is a children's eyo as well. The festival is said to have started with lucky charms (ofuda) being scattered and fought over. Male participants wear loincloths, female participants a sarashi wrap over sportswear, and everyone is asked to wear sneakers. The temple is one of the Seven Lucky Gods temples of the Harima and Mimasaka area. In 2026 the adults' eyo was called off because of repair work on the Kannon Hall.
