About
On the third Saturday of July, Saidaiji Kannon-in in Okayama's Higashi Ward holds a summer festival built around the cooling sound of wind chimes. You can dedicate a chime with a prayer, and there are goma fire rituals, short sermons and hospitality for visitors. The 2026 lineup included a goma ritual and short talk in one of the temple halls, a wind-chime beer garden and tea gathering on the grounds, and music performances in front of the main hall. A misting tunnel strung with 400 wind chimes stays in place until the temple's water festival. There are no fireworks. It goes ahead even in rain, and the temple is about a 10-minute walk from JR Saidaiji Station.
