About
On April 29 every year, Ogashima-ji in the Toyohara district of Setouchi holds its Gongen festival. Shagiri festival music is offered in the guest hall, and kagura and danjiri floats, both designated city-level important cultural properties, make lively rounds. The temple is an old Tendai temple said to have been founded in the Nara period by the priest Hoon Daishi, and it is one of the 48 temples of old Bizen Province. Its principal image is a thousand-armed Kannon, and it was supported by the Ukita clan and by the Ikeda lords of Okayama. The main hall, rebuilt in 1781, is among the largest in the prefecture and is also a city-designated cultural property, so take a look at the grounds while you are there.
