About
From April 29 to May 5 every year, the porcelain town of Arita becomes one giant tableware market. Over 450 stalls and shops spread along about 4 km of streets from around JR Arita Station to Kami-Arita Station, and the normally calm town is packed with shoppers. People come for low prices and sheer variety, and part of the fun is stumbling on a bargain or a piece by an up-and-coming potter. Visitors travel from all over Japan, especially Kyushu; the 2026 edition counted 1.17 million. Limited express trains make special stops at Kami-Arita during the fair, so it is better to leave the car at home.
