About
On summer nights, the streets around Sky Road in central Kashima fill with residents dancing together in this citywide festival. In 2026 it takes place on August 7 and August 8, kicking off at 19:00 each evening. August 8 is also the night of the Kashima city fireworks display, which starts just as the dancing winds down, so you can go straight from one to the other. The festival grew out of the great flood of 1962, born of a wish to rebuild the town and lift local spirits. Spectators watch for free, and anyone joining a dance troupe pays 300 yen. The area is about a 5-minute walk from Hizen-Kashima Station. No temporary parking is provided, so take the train or use paid lots nearby.
