About
Kazo holds this festival to wish for safe, peaceful daily life and to give thanks for peace. The setting is the Tone River's riverside green park, bright with rapeseed blossoms, and the main event is the flight of a 100-meter "jumbo koinobori," said to be the world's largest carp streamer. The one flying today, the fourth version, was finished in 2014; it weighs about 330 kg, and its eyes and mouth measure 10 meters across. Carp streamers have been a local industry in Kazo since the Meiji era, and the first jumbo koinobori was made by the Kazo Junior Chamber for the 1988 Saitama Expo, taking to the air for the first time at the first Citizens' Peace Festival in 1989. There is also a peace ceremony, stage shows and food stalls.
