About

On the night of July 23 every year, Takuhi Shrine in Kamonaka, Kamo, Unnan, holds its annual festival, a summer event for the whole town. From a little after 20:00 until around midnight, the grounds fill with people out to enjoy the cool evening air. There are kagura offerings and fireworks, and food stalls line the precincts. The shrine is said to have been founded in 1715 by Kuroda Kanjuro of the Izumiya house, a wealthy Kamo merchant, who invited its deity from Takuhi Shrine in Nishinoshima in the Oki Islands. The festival committee organizes it, and the shrine is about 10 minutes by car from the Shinji interchange on the San'in Expressway.
