About

On July 20 every year, Hirose in Yasugi holds the festival of Suga Shrine, a shrine within the grounds of Toda Hachimangu. The portable shrine, escorted by tall lantern poles, tours the Honmachi area twice, once in daylight and once after dark. In the evening, stalls open and a special stage features bands, taiko and dance, while fireworks go up from about 8 p.m. from the Iinashi riverbank near Toda Bridge. The evening before, the portable shrine is purified and an eve festival is held. There is also a photo contest, and the event is organized by a local committee. Some roads in Hirose are closed on the day, so drivers should plan ahead.
