About
During cherry blossom season, the Ieyama and Sasama areas of Kawane-cho in Shimada host the Kawane Cherry Blossom Festival; Ieyama itself is a well-known place for blossoms. The star attraction is the Sakura Tunnel, where trees cover a road beside the Oigawa Railway for about 1 kilometer, and catching a steam train rushing past under the flowers is hard to forget. You can walk in from Ieyama Station on the Oigawa Railway or take a community bus from JR Shimada Station. The festival's special web page posts updates on how the blossoms are coming along.
