About
Of the two pottery fairs Mashiko holds each year, the spring one coincides with Golden Week. The fairs began in 1966, and the spring 2026 fair, the one hundred thirteenth, ran for 8 days. Around the Jonaizaka and Sayado districts, some 50 town shops and about 700 tents line the streets, offering traditional Mashiko ware, everyday cups and plates, and works of art. One of the pleasures is browsing tents while chatting with young potters and kiln artisans. Local farm produce and specialty goods are on sale as well, and spring and autumn together attract about 600,000 visitors. Paid and free parking lots are set up around town during the fair.
