About

On Setsubun, Osaki Shrine in Togo, Moka, holds a big bean-throwing festival. The shrine is old enough to appear in the Engishiki, and it honors Daikoku (Okuninushi) and Ebisu (Kotoshironushi), gods of good fortune, which has made it a popular place to pray for luck. On the day, three demon figures, Zenki, Goki and Dodomeki, join about 560 members of the shrine's Setsubun association in the grounds to scatter beans with gusto. The beans fly twice, around midday and again in the evening, and the shrine is packed every year. Stop by to collect a little good fortune.
