About
Sano's big festival takes its name from Fujiwara no Hidesato, honored as the man who laid the city's foundations. Its motto is "everyone takes part," and many residents get involved in some role. Building on Sano's long-standing character and traditions, the program aims to grow affection for the hometown and to give locals and visitors a place to meet. The thirty-fourth festival, in 2026, ran for 2 days: the first featured a mass citizens' dance and a parade of Sano Hidesato nebuta lantern floats, and the second centered on portable shrines and festival music moving through the streets. The venue is right next to Sano Station on the JR Ryomo Line and Tobu Sano Line.
