About
In Utsuma, Mugi, an old stretch of national highway has been turned into the Utsuma Hydrangea Road, and this festival is held when it blooms. Roughly 4,000 hydrangea plants line about 2 kilometers of road, making for a colorful walk. Peak bloom is usually mid- to late June. On the day, early arrivals get free kusamochi, and children of elementary school age and under can join a candy grab. A local committee runs the event, centered on the Utsuma Community Center. It is a quiet way to take in early summer flowers in southern Tokushima.
