About

Yoshinogawa's Gokuro Matsuri pays tribute to Sogano-ya Gokuro, a Kamojima-born comic actor who won nationwide fame before the war as the star of the film Nonkina Tosan. For the evening, the road in front of Kamojima Station is closed to cars and lined with night stalls. A parade of people dressed up as Gokuro winds through town, the Hosho and Gokuro taiko groups drum, and a brass band marches, making it fun for kids and adults alike. It runs from early evening into the night in early summer, right outside Kamojima Station on the JR Tokushima Line, and admission is free.
