About
For about a month every April, Nezu Shrine in Nezu, Bunkyo City, holds its azalea festival; 2026 marked the fifty-fifth. While it runs, the shrine's azalea garden is open to visitors. Early, mid-season and late varieties flower in turn, so the scene depends on when you go: newly opened blooms set against fresh green leaves at the start, the greatest number of flowers around mid-month, and a quieter look at the late bloomers toward the end. Food stalls set up, and there are events such as a children's procession, a mikoshi parade, offertory performances and taiko drumming. Entering the garden requires a donation of 500 to 1,000 yen (free for ages 12 and under). Food, drink and pets are not permitted inside.
