About
From January 9 to 11, Fujinami Shrine in Aridagawa fills with worshippers for Ebessan, its festival of the god Ebisu. The first day is called Yoi-ebisu, the second Hon-ebisu and the last Nokori-fuku, and throughout, the shrine hands out lucky charms such as bamboo branches and rakes, blessed for thriving business, a safe household and good fortune. Every charm comes with a raffle ticket, and no ticket loses. Food trucks and stalls set up in the grounds. The shrine itself was formed around 1907 when 34 local shrines were combined, and it now houses about 50 deities, Ebisu and Daikoku among them, alongside Sugawara no Michizane and a water god as its principal deities.
