About

At the southern tip of Honshu, Cape Shionomisaki in Kushimoto, a fire festival on the broad lawn of Boro no Shiba marks the arrival of spring. The fire is set by members of the local Kushimoto Koza High School kyudo (archery) club, who loose flaming arrows into the grass and send it blazing. Local food and dance performances are part of the day too. Food stalls open at 13:00, and the festival proper begins at 16:30.
