About

The Kishu Odori Bundara-bushi sends dance troupes circling Wakayama Castle each summer. Started in 1969, it has long been a favorite of Wakayama City residents, and its Kishu Odori dance is named for Kinokuniya Bunzaemon. The stage on Keyaki-odori Avenue runs from an opening ceremony through a daimyo procession, big circle dances and the traditional Bundara-bushi, with a display by the Saika musketeers as well. Nishinomaru plaza becomes a lane of festival stalls, with rice-cake and candy throwing and circle dancing that families enjoy. There is also an eve event the day before. Light rain does not stop it, but stormy weather does, and roads around the castle are restricted on the day.
