About
Over two days in February, Mogami Chuo Park (Kamuten Park), just outside the east exit of JR Shinjo Station, turns into a snow playground. Expect huge snow sculptures and slides, snowball battles, a karuta card tournament and treasure hunts, plus a market gathering local food from Shinjo and the eight towns and villages of the Mogami region. In the evening, ice candles glow across the park, and on the first night fireworks burst over the snow. Admission is free, and the venue is a few minutes’ walk from the station.
