About
This autumn festival celebrates the spirit of Yonezawa, above all the can-do motto "naseba naru" ("if you try, you can") of Uesugi Yozan, and passes it on to the next generation. It fills Matsugasaki Park and the area around Denkoku-no-Mori. A recreated bokkui-ichi, the unmanned market of Yozan's day where goods hung from posts and no one ever stole, recalls a community built on trust. You can watch, try and buy local crafts such as Yonezawa textiles and Sasano ittobori woodcarving, eat Yonezawa beef rice bowls and local-style imoni stew, try old-fashioned games, browse goods from Yonezawa's partner towns and shop at a Mashiko pottery fair.
