About

This festival puts Hagi's famous natsumikan citrus in the spotlight, with Kankitsu Park and the former Tanaka Villa in the Hiyako area as its venues. Around the castle town the fruit hangs over white plaster walls and the earthen walls of samurai houses, and in early to mid May the small white blossoms give the streets a sweet scent. The Ministry of the Environment has named that scent one of Japan's 100 best scent landscapes, the only one chosen in Yamaguchi Prefecture. On festival day you can shop for natsumikan and goods made from it, pick fruit yourself, join a quiz rally and prize draw, watch local performing arts and sit down for matcha. Pleasure boats leave from a temporary pier nearby, showing part of the Eight Views of Hagi from the water. The park grows about 380 citrus trees of 10 kinds.
