About

Fuefuki, which grows peaches on more land than anywhere else in Japan, holds this big spring event while the blossoms are out. From late March to early April the city's peach trees usually reach full bloom, and the whole area turns into a pink "Togenkyo," a land of peach blossoms. Things open with the Sakaigawa Skunk Cabbage Spring Festival, featuring skunk cabbage said to flower earlier than anywhere else in Japan. At the main venue, Yatsushiro Furusato Park, food trucks and other vendors set up and you can find out about blossom spots around the city. During the festival you can join the "Let's Walk Togenkyo" tour of peach and cherry blossom sites, try a ride-and-walk outing on electric bicycles, or take a blossom-viewing taxi. On busy weekends a free shuttle bus runs from temporary parking.
