About
Each summer, fields in the Akeno area of Hokuto are covered in sunflowers. In 2026, 400,000 plants of four varieties were grown: Tohoku Yae, Sunfinity, Hybrid Sunflower and the newcomer Concert Bell, together spreading like a yellow carpet. The Himawari Marche at the venue offered a range of food and drinks, and on August 14 the fields were lit up for one night only. Beyond the flowers you can see Mount Fuji, the Southern Alps and Yatsugatake. By car it is about 15 minutes from the Nirasaki or Sudama interchange on the Chuo Expressway; by train, take a taxi or bus from JR Nirasaki Station.
